Mary graduated as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1997 and started her career working within the NHS developing skills in areas such as orthopaedics, respiratory, amputees and neurology before specialising as a senior clinician in muscular skeletal outpatients and women’s health. During this time she treated a vast array of muscular skeletal symptoms and worked covering all areas of obstetric and gynaecological care within a hospital and GP setting.
In the private sector she has practiced at the Sussex Centre for Sports Medicine, Sportswise, often working with professional athletes as part of their rehabilitation programme. Mary has also lectured for Physiotherapists and Pilates instructors for organisations such as the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the University of Brighton and the Pilates Foundation UK.
In 1998 Mary started her pilates training with the DMA Clinical Pilates, Australia. Then continued to train with Stott Pilates, Canada, as well as completing a years equipment based certification course with the Pilates Foundation UK.
Mary's love of sharing knowledge has lead her to be a guest speaker for many renowned institutions such as the Chartered society of Physiotherapy, Brighton University, Pilates Method Alliance, Fascia Symposium UK, Pilates Method Alliance USA, Pilates Foundation UK, Alan Herdman’s - Celebration of Movement, as well as presenting monthly workshops within the UK within many factors of clinical Pilates. She has a spacial interest in Hypermobility syndromes, Scoliosis, Osteoporosis & pain management.

Don has 30 years experience in health and fitness and holds a degree in Exercise Science from Brighton University. He is also a highly respected Karate teacher and owns the Karate Academy Dojo in Eastbourne, as well as being an international lecturer in Martial Arts.
He came to pilates following a disc prolapse in 2000 and used the method to rehabilitate himself back to health to enable him to continue his sport. He is therefore very passionate about the benefits of Clinical Pilates.
Don completed his pilates training with the APPI (Australian Pilates & Physiotherapy institute) London, and Mary Thornton Physiotherapist and Clinical Pilates Studio director / founder.
Body Control Pilates teacher
Talie began taking regular Pilates classes whilst at college in 2004 and is now a Supervising Teacher for Body Control and Reformer trained. Talie trained as a Pilates instructor with Body Control Pilates in London in 2010. Since then she has trained in a variety of specialist areas including Small equipment. Talie is keen to continue learning everything she can about Pilates and to share this knowledge with client for their health or rehabillitation.

Jo graduated as a chartered Physiotherapist in 2006. She started her career in London working in the NHS before moving into the private sector. Since moving to Eastbourne she has been based at Sportswise alongside a private hospital.
Jo qualified as a matwork instructor with the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute). She uses her Pilates to complement her Physiotherapy management with an aim to keep clients moving well long term, especially following injury.

Sam qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1998. She started her career in London working at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. During her 8 years at the National Orthopaedic Sam gained a wealth of specialised experience in rehabilitation including residential back pain and chronic pain programmes.
This was where the foundations of her career in musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, rehabilitation and holistic management of chronic conditions. After Sam relocated to East Sussex she continued to work in NHS and private Hospitals.
Sam started her Pilates training with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) in 2009 and completed matwork levels 1,2 and 3 and became a APPI certified Clinical Pilates matwork Instructor in 2011.
Sam uses her Physiotherapy expertise combined with her Clinical Pilates experience to help individuals better manage and maintain their mobility and function, restore normal movement and improve overall well being.
